WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT

Why did the former treasurer (now prime minister) use his first budget to cut $1.2 billion from aged care.

--

WHAT THEY SAID

"How can the prime minister continue to deny a cut of $1.2 billion in aged care funding in his first budget, when it's here in black and white?" Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.

"Only under the Labor Party can one plus one equal zero." - Prime Minister Scott Morrison on aged care funding, which he says is increasing year-on-year.

"I don't want to fight about this issue - I want to fix it." - Morrison.

"Will the minister now apologise to older Australians and their families for refusing to acknowledge the crisis in aged care?" Labor spokeswoman Julie Collins on Ken Wyatt's comment in May that the opposition was "fearmongering".

"If Fatman Scoop's listening, I'll see him at RnB Friday." - Morrison.
