Question time in federal parliament

What we learned, heard and were amused by in Question Time on Monday.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison during question time

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he is increasing year-on-year funding for aged care. (AAP)

WHAT WE LEARNED

* Human Services is getting an extra 2750 staff to handle a backlog of applications and delays in phone call responses.

* 920,000 people will require aged care by 2050.

WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTED TO SPIN

You can't trust Labor with the budget or the economy.

WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT

Why did the former treasurer (now prime minister) use his first budget to cut $1.2 billion from aged care.

--

WHAT THEY SAID

"How can the prime minister continue to deny a cut of $1.2 billion in aged care funding in his first budget, when it's here in black and white?" Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.

"Only under the Labor Party can one plus one equal zero." - Prime Minister Scott Morrison on aged care funding, which he says is increasing year-on-year.

"I don't want to fight about this issue - I want to fix it." - Morrison.

"Will the minister now apologise to older Australians and their families for refusing to acknowledge the crisis in aged care?" Labor spokeswoman Julie Collins on Ken Wyatt's comment in May that the opposition was "fearmongering".

"If Fatman Scoop's listening, I'll see him at RnB Friday." - Morrison.

TWEETED

@CatherineKingMP Kicked out of Question Time for calling out the Liberal cuts to the dementia supplement. My mum was among thousands of people affected by this cruel cut. Just another example of this Government's shocking record on aged care.
