Quinlan set for more high-profile UK bouts

Renold Quinlan will target more fights in the UK, despite losing his IBO super-middleweight title to Chris Eubank Jr, says his manager Matt Rose.

Renold Quinlan's manager says the Australian super-middleweight's fight with Chris Eubank Jr in London last Saturday was the first step towards establishing himself as serious player in the division.

Although Quinlan lost his IBO belt to Eubank following a 10th round stoppage, he won a whole host of admirers following a gutsy performance against the highly-rated Englishman.

In only his 13th professional contest, Quinlan proved he could hold his own against a top quality opponent and manager Matt Rose is already plotting his next appearance in the UK.

"Ren has shown by going 10 rounds with Eubank, one of the best super-middleweights around, that he's more than capable in that sort of company," Rose told AAP.

"In England there are so many good super-middleweights over here like (James) De Gale, (George) Groves and Callum Smith and Ren wants to show belongs in that kind of company."

Proof of the depth of British talent in the division was on the undercard to Quinlan's fight where a high-quality IBF super-middleweight international contest was won by John Ryder over Adam Etches.

"Unfortunately we won't get a fight of that calibre in Australia so really we have to come over here to get the best opponents," Rose said.

"Ryder is a possibility maybe. We'd like to think we'll be able to get something there. We'll fight anyone. Ren has said he doesn't want easy fights and he's willing to travel to get them.

"Although we're bitterly disappointed to lose the title you have to look at the bigger picture and say that's a very good boxer he's lost to with elite level fitness.

"Ren''s only had 13 fights and will get better. He needs to be fitter and he knows that but the skills are there. We're disappointed he didn't use his jab more against Eubank as that's his most dangerous weapon.

"He's had a taste now of facing two of the best in Daniel Geale, who he beat to win the title and now Eubank. He doesn't want to go backwards."
