Rabbitohs ready to make history: Seibold

South Sydney star Angus Crichton missed part of training this week due to a virus but is certain to play in their NRL qualifying final against Melbourne.

South Sydney have turned to recent history to create new history.

Rabbitohs coach Anthony Seibold has revealed showing taped footage of their recent victory over Melbourne to remind his team when they are at their best they can defeat the defending premiers.

South Sydney have yet to walk away from AAMI Park with a win in seven attempts, including a 64-6 humiliation in their most recent visit last year.

However Seibold insists this year's group are a different outfit.

"It's a different coaching staff, different playing staff," Seibold said on Thursday.

"If we were worried about going down there, we wouldn't go down there. At some stage, Souths will get a result down there. We're hoping to make it tomorrow night."

And the rookie coach is banking on bottling some confidence from their resounding 10-point win over the Storm in a top-of-the-table clash in Sydney just five weeks ago.

The result lifted the Rabbitohs over the Storm into first place at the time.

"I think there's some takeaways from the game that suggest that when we play our best football, we can perform well against the very best sides in the competition," Seibold said.

"I've got so much respect for the Storm for what they've done for a long period of time.

"We have looked at the previous encounter a little bit, but we've looked more at ourselves and how we can be better. It gives the group and individuals within our group confidence.

"But that game's been done and dusted."

Seibold also admitted star second-rower Angus Crichton will be quarantined from the team in Melbourne after missing part of this week's preparations with a virus.

The NSW State of Origin forward returned to training on Wednesday but will room alone.

"We gave him a day off yesterday but he's back in this morning and got through training fine, so he'll travel," Seibold said.

"He's been a little bit crook, but that's part and parcel. Some weeks you get a couple of guys who aren't feeling that well. But he's a tough guy and he'll play through that."

Victory for the Rabbitohs will advance them to the preliminary final, while defeat will mean they face the winner of the elimination final between Brisbane and St George Illawarra.
