A vet is warning of the possibility of a rabies outbreak in the Northern Territory.

A vet is warning of the possibility of a rabies outbreak in the Northern Territory.

The highly infectious disease, which can spread to humans from dog bites from infected animals, has posed problems in Bali in recent years and there have been outbreaks on islands off the coast of northern Australia.

Doctor Ted Donelan is a vet and the president of the group, Animal Management in Remote and Rural Indigenous Communities.

He told Greg Dyett a rabies outbreak could occur on the mainland.
