Conservationists are desperately trying raise enough cash to buy a patch of far north Queensland rainforest to stop a house being built on it.

Rainforest Rescue wants to buy the $70,000 property that adjoins the Daintree National Park and World Heritage Area and add it to the organisation's Milky Pine Wildlife Refuge.

A council development approval has already been granted to build a home on the site, but Rainforest Rescue has raised more than $43,000 and is calling for further donations so it can purchase the property instead.
