Raiders to face short NRL turnaround test

Canberra coach Ricky Stuart says a five-day turnaround to face the Broncos will be an early-season test of the Raiders' toughness.

How Canberra respond to a five-day turnaround to face the Broncos in Brisbane will show coach Ricky Stuart how tough his side are.

The Raiders face Brisbane on Friday night, having snared their first win of the season by hammering Wests Tigers 46-6 on Sunday afternoon.

Conversely, the Broncos will have eight days to recover after their narrow loss to the Storm on Thursday night.

"They're the cards you're dealt with, you've just got to deal with it," Stuart said.

The match will be the second of Canberra's three trips to Queensland inside the first six weeks of the season, a period in which they have also faced reigning premiers Cronulla.

"We've got an awfully tough six weeks," Stuart said.

"We knew that from the start and we'll just deal with that. That's a challenge and we'll be challenged all year.

"It's a brand new season - new challenges and we'll just see how tough we are."

In the Raiders' favour is the fact they emerged unscathed from the win over the Tigers despite a gruelling first half.

Captain Jarrod Croker made a successful return from a knee injury to score 18 points while Dave Taylor got through his NRL return with a solid display.

"That was a tough, physical game," Stuart said.

"I'm sure there'll be some bruised and battered bodies in there.

"We only get to train once this week, we'll see how we go then."

Stuart was measured in his praise for the Raiders after breaking their duck, with key players regaining form after looking a long way off their best a week earlier when they were on the end of a heavy defeat by Cronulla.

"Those individual efforts all help but they weren't there last week," Stuart said.

"I need them consistently, I need them week-in, week-out."
