Rail sites in Rockhampton will be sprayed to kill any mosquitoes potentially carrying Zika after a man who stayed at a nearby hotel tested positive for the virus.

Queensland Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the spraying of about two kilometres of rail yard and corridor was a precautionary measure.

"While no risk to the nearby train station or rail yard has been identified, the Queensland government is taking every safeguard to ensure the health and safety of the Rockhampton community," Mr Hinchliffe said.
