Rain delays start of NZ-Pakistan ODI

Rain in Napier has delayed the start of the second ODI between New Zealand and Pakistan with the hosts leading the three-match series 1-0.

Rain has delayed the start of the second one-day international between New Zealand and Pakistan in Napier.

Rain was falling on the McLean Park venue on Thursday and covers were in place which prevented play getting underway at 2pm local time (12pm AEDT).

There were puddles on the playing surface and forecaster the MetService says the rain was set to linger for the rest of the day.

Following weeks of dry weather, a thunderstorm on Wednesday dumped 40mm of rain on Napier, prompting groundstaff to soak up 4000 litres of water off the playing surface.

New Zealand lead the three-match series 1-0 following their 70-run win in Wellington on Monday.

The final game is scheduled for Auckland on Sunday.
