Rain plays havoc with Wimbledon schedule

Nick Kyrgios's second-round clash with Dustin Brown is among eight singles matches suspended because of rain at Wimbledon.

London's lousy weather is threatening to throw the Wimbledon schedule into disarray.

Nick Kyrgios's second-round clash with German wildcard Dustin Brown is one of eight matches to have been suspended as persistent showers play havoc with the singles draws at the All England Club.

With officials already trying to catch up on a backlog of matches, the forecast is for intermittent rain throughout Friday.

The grim weather has raised the possibility of play on the middle Sunday - traditionally a rest day at Wimbledon - for the first time since 2004.

Two days were washed out during the first week in 2004 and, as yet, this year's schedule has not been nearly as interrupted.

The only other times in the past 45 years - since all courts have had covers available - that there was play on the middle Sunday were 1991 and 1997 after four full days were lost.

Kyrgios barely completed his warm-up before his match on court two was suspended with Brown serving at 15-30.

Australian qualifier Matt Barton hadn't finished the warm-up before his delayed second-round match against American John Isner was suspended.
