Both New Zealand and South Africa will leave Dunedin a little frustrated after rain washed out the final day of their cricket Test with the match evenly poised.
Play was abandoned shortly after 1.30pm on Sunday. Dean Elgar was named man of the match for his knocks of 140 and 89.
South Africa had been set to resume on 6-224 in their second innings, a 191-run lead.
South African captain Faf du Plessis says it is disappointing after four days of hard work.
They had put in a lot of graft on day four and New Zealand were a bowler and a batsman down through injury.
If they had gone on to set New Zealand a target of 250 in 50-60 overs it would have been tough for the hosts, he said.
"We would fancy our chances for either a draw or a win. I think a loss would have been out of the equation.
"I think both teams played some really good cricket, did right things, did wrong things and [honours were] pretty much 50:50 after this Test match."
Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is pleased with his team's performance in both batting and bowling against the higher-ranked side.
"It was nice to get a little lead going into that second innings," Williamson said.
"Obviously a shame to lose the last day to rain but it was shaping up to be a great game."
The second match of the three-Test series starts in Wellington on Thursday.
