Discarded Australian Test opener Matthew Renshaw will be hoping a potential rare T20 outing can trigger a form surge for him, as it did last summer.
Renshaw has been named in the winless Brisbane Heat squad for Saturday's BBL clash with Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium.
The 22-year-old left-hander hasn't played a senior interstate game since Queensland's last pre-Christmas Sheffield Shield fixture finished on December 10.
It was a frustrating second half to 2018 for Renshaw, who played the last of his 11 Tests last March when he was rushed to South Africa after the ball tampering scandal and scored 8 and 5 in the final Test.
He was included in the squad for last September's two-Test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates but did not play either game after being concussed while fielding in a warm-up match.
A lean Sheffield Shield campaign then stymied his hopes of more Test opportunities.
He has scored just 199 runs at an average of 19.90 with one half century, though he scored a Queensland Premier Cricket record 345 at the start of December.
Renshaw has played only one senior T20 game, scoring 22 off 19 balls when batting at No.4 against Melbourne Renegades last summer.
It sparked a strong second half to his Shield campaign, as he hit a century in three successive games and finished the competition's leading runscorer.
"It was nice at the back end of the BBL expressing myself and trying different things in my game," Renshaw said on Friday.
"That led into some red ball runs which was nice.
'Obviously any time you play cricket you want to score runs and I think now is a massive opportunity for me to show that I'm not just a red ball specialist."
The Scorchers squad for the game includes international pacemen Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff plus England's David Willey plus Australian spinner Ashton Agar.
"I don't know where I'll be batting if I'm playing, but it's a nice opportunity to go against a pretty good Perth Scorchers bowling lineup," Renshaw said.
"I'll probably try and take a few lessons off some of the guys who are so good at Twenty20 cricket and just build my game from there."
