South Australia's young side seemed in control for most of their domestic one-day cup match against Western Australia on Sunday, only for their inexperience to eventually tell when it mattered most as they lost a flurry of late wickets for a dramatic tie in Perth.
SA reached 242 to level scores in the penultimate over only for Jason Behrendorff to bowl Nick Benton with eight balls of the innings remaining as WA got out of jail.
The Redbacks, who last season made a surprise run to the final, appeared to be cruising at 4-204 with 11 over remaining in pursuit of WA's 9-242.
However, WA paceman Nathan Rimmington proved key in the home side's comeback with the bowler nabbing 4-34, as SA stumbled to lose their final four wickets for just 11 runs.
It is the first tie in the domestic one-day cup for eight seasons.
"It is a bit of a weird feeling having not been involved in a tie before," Rimmington said.
"We were a bit lucky to get any points out of it in the end.
"We have some areas to improve on, and I don't think we will take too many positives out of it."
The Redbacks lined-up with four debutants, including three in their five-man bowling attack.
SA batsman Jake Weatherald made a startling debut with a free-flowing 41 off just 35 balls, while fellow opener Alex Carey top-scored with 75.
Medium-pacer Cameron Valente collected 3-40 while fast bowler Wes Agar, brother of former Australian Test spinner Ashton, also impressed on his debut in snaring 2-43.
WA captain and Australian Test batsman Adam Voges looked in form during his knock of 51, but four of his teammates made starts only to fall in the 30s.
