RCR wins another solar energy deal

RCR Tomlinson has won its second solar energy farm contract this month: an $85 million deal to build a solar facility at Manildra in NSW.

Engineering and infrastructure firm RCR Tomlinson has won its second contract within a month to design and build a solar energy farm.

RCR says the latest contract is to build an $85 million 48.5 megawatt solar farm at Manildra in NSW.

Earlier in March, RCR won an $80 million-plus contract to build and operate the 60 megawatt first stage of the Gannawarra solar farm near Kerang in Victoria.

The company on Monday said construction of the Manildra plant will start in June and is expected to finish in the second quarter of the 2018 calendar year.

"There continues to be strong growth in the renewable energy markets, and in particular solar," RCR chief executive Dr Paul Dalgleish said in a statement.

Construction of the Gannawarra solar farm starts in the second quarter of the 2017 calendar year, with completion expected early 2018.

RCR also said it is the preferred contractor on six other renewable energy projects, which it expects to convert into contracts in the near term.

Furthermore, RCR said its contract for the Sun Metals solar farm at Townsville was now worth more than $200 million after a 26 megawatts capacity increase.

The original $155 million-plus contract with Sun Metals Corporation to build a 98.5 megawatt solar facility was agreed last December.

Patersons analyst Rob Brierley said RCR was on the cusp of delivering meaningful revenue and earnings growth, and its infrastructure division could generate sales of $1 billion in 2018.

RCR shares were two cents higher at $3.24 at 1410 AEDT.
