Re-signed Roosters backline look forward

Sydney Roosters winger Daniel Tupou aims to become more consistent over the next four years while current fullback Michael Gordon is just happy to stick around.

Re-signed Sydney Roosters winger Daniel Tupou is hoping to fix the inconsistency issues that have plagued his recent NRL seasons.

Tupou, a four-time NSW State of Origin player, has by his own admission had an "up-and-down" stint in the NRL and has fallen down the pecking order in terms of representative wingers.

Tupou put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the club until the end of 2021 on Monday, and with that aside, he hopes to return to the kind of football that made him one of the competition's most potent wingers in 2013 and 2014.

"It does give me a massive confidence boost and in return I've just got to play good football and do my best out there each week," Tupou, 26, said on Wednesday.

"I've had a couple of years where I've been up and down so I want to try and be as consistent as I can and repay the club, the family that has trained me."

And with that, he hopes he can win back the Blues' State of Origin jersey he last wore in Game I of 2015.

"If it does come up, it would be a goal to try and make but in the meantime it's just Roosters," he said.

"If that opportunity comes again I'll take it with both hands."

Tupou was one of two members of the Roosters' backline to re-sign this week, with veteran fullback Michael Gordon opting to put off retirement for another year.

NSW Origin winger Blake Ferguson also confirmed his deal wasn't too far away, ensuring a logjam of backs for the Tri-colours in 2018 with Blues fullback James Tedesco's arrival.

It could mean either Ferguson or Gordon are shifted into the centres, however the latter said family commitments had kept him at the club despite interest from elsewhere.

"It was flattering to have a bit of interest to be honest," Gordon, 33, said.

"I've been moving around a bit the last few years and my son started kindergarten this year, I didn't really want to be moving too much more."
