Reaction to the SCG Test verbal abuse saga

Cricket Australia is probing allegations that some members of the SCG crowd racially abused Indian players, prompting strong reactions in Australia and India.

WHO SAID WHAT ABOUT ALLEGED RACIAL ABUSE AT THE SCG

"Racial abuse is absolutely unacceptable ... the incident needs to be looked at with absolute urgency and seriousness and strict action against the offenders should set things straight for once" - India captain VIRAT KOHLI.

"It is definitely not acceptable in this day and age. We have seen a lot and evolved as a society. Sometimes I think this roots back to the upbringing and the way one sees" - India veteran RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN.

"Very unfortunate to see what's happening at SCG. There is no place for this rubbish. Never understood the need to yell abuse at players on a sporting field" - former India batsman VVS LAXMAN.

"It's terrible behaviour and I can't believe it's still happening in this day and age. They should be banned for life from coming to the cricket" - Fox Sports commentator and former Australia batsman MIKE HUSSEY.

"It's really sad to see it happen in Australia ... it's upsetting and disappointing" - Australia coach JUSTIN LANGER.

"Cricket Australia condemns in the strongest terms possible all discriminatory behaviour. If you engage in racist abuse, you are not welcome in Australian cricket" - Cricket Australia's head of integrity and security SEAN CARROLL.

"We are incredibly disappointed that a small minority of fans may think that this abhorrent behaviour is acceptable" - International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive MANU SAWHNEY.

"At the SCG, we pride ourselves on welcoming anyone and everyone in a safe and inclusive environment. We are taking this extremely seriously" - Venues NSW chief executive KERRIE MATHER.
