Melbourne Rebels hope Reece Hodge's shift to fullback will get him more involved against the Queensland Reds on Saturday.

The Wallabies utility back will move off the wing in a swap with Jack Maddocks for the Suncorp Stadium clash, while Test trio Will Genia, Adam Coleman and Marike Koroibete are all back after forced rests last weekend.

"He's obviously a great player, we want to get his hands on the ball as much as we can," Melbourne coach Dave Wessels said of Hodge's move to No.15.

"To keep people guessing, is probably our thinking ... but he'll feel more comfortable doing that (injecting himself) from fullback."

The Rebels are 3-2 after a mixed season to date, with last weekend's fade-out in Durban to the Sharks still a sore point with Wessels.

But the return of their Test trio will boost them, particularly as Genia and Quade Cooper prepare to play in Brisbane for the first time since leaving the Reds.

"His (Genia's) combination with Quade means a lot. The two of them have played a lot at Suncorp ... both have played over 100 games there," he said.

"We didn't play well against the Sharks, we're frustrated about that.

"What's going to win the game is our intensity and (the) speed at which we're able to play the game."

Melbourne: Tetera Faulkner, Anaru Rangi, Sam Talakai, Matt Philip, Adam Coleman, Luke Jones, Angus Cottrell (c), Isi Naisarani, Will Genia, Quade Cooper, Marika Koroibete, Billy Meakes, Tom English, Jack Maddocks, Reece Hodge. Reserves: Robbie Abel, Matt Gibbon, Jermaine Ainsley, Esei Ha'angana, Rob Leota, Michael Ruru, Campbell Magnay, Sione Tuipulotu.
