Wallabies hopeful Jack Maddocks has signed a new two-year deal keeping him at the Melbourne Rebels until the end of the 2020 season.

The 21-year-old back, who made his Super Rugby debut last season, has become a key player for the Rebels with his form putting him on the radar for a Test call-up.

Maddocks now boasts 16 Super Rugby caps and six tries - the highlight of these a hat-trick in Tokyo in March against the Sunwolves who they host at AAMI Park on Friday night.

He has only missed one Super Rugby match this season, proving his versatility at fullback and on the wing.

Last year he was invited as a development player on the Wallabies' Spring tour and is a chance to make his debut in their Test series against Ireland next month.

The Sydney native said he was happy to continue calling Melbourne home.

"I'm really happy to be staying at the Rebels," Maddocks said.

The development of the rugby program and the environment that we're creating under (coach Dave Wessels) made it a really easy decision.

"We are definitely on the right track to building a long-term, successful club."

Wessels said Maddocks' re-signing was another big tick for the club's rugby program.

"Jack is a quality person and has played well this year - a real testament to the work he's put in."
