The Melbourne Rebels have bolstered their forward stocks for the 2016 Super Rugby season, signing Kiwi prop Ryan Cocker from New Zealand's ITM Cup.

The 23-year-old, who has been a member of Waikato's development side for the past two seasons while playing tighthead prop for Taranki, signed on for one season.

Cocker, whose mother was born in Australia, rejoins new Rebels assistant coach Leo Crowley, who has also moved across from Taranki.

"Ryan has progressed really well in his three years with Taranaki," Crowley said.

"He's a dedicated young man who has been waiting for an opportunity, and he will grow as a player in Melbourne; I expect him to really add to our existing tight five group of players.

"Ryan's strengths are his core roles around scrum and lineout. He is a very strong man in the gym, and his work ethic will enable the Rebels to grow his all round game."
