A record number of voters will cast ballots in South Australia's March state election.

The electoral commission says 1,201,755 people had enrolled to vote by the deadline on Friday.

Electoral Commissioner Mick Sherry says that's a 5.2 per cent increase on the numbers enrolled for the 2014 election with about 25,000 people adding their names to the roll over the past month.
