Record gathering of zombies

The bloodied and the 'living dead' stopped traffic in Brisbane on Sunday as thousands of zombies walked into the record books.

More than eight thousand of them lurched through the city along a two-kilometre CBD route closed to traffic in the afternoon.

The annual zombie walk, which raises money for the Brain Foundation, began in Brisbane in 2004 with just 300 participants.

This year, event organiser Anthony Radazza was intent on beating the world record for the biggest zombie gathering - 4093, set in the US city of Pittsburgh.

Mr Radazza told AAP after the walk the record had been "absolutely destroyed".

"We stopped counting at 8000," he said.

"Some people have their normal charity events, this is like the alternative of it and it has a bit of that horror twist to it, which I think gets everybody into it," he added.
