Redden hurt as Eagles prepare for AFL

West Coast's Mark Hutchings doubts that the injury to fellow premiership midfielder Jack Redden is serious.

West Coast premiership midfielder Jack Redden was forced from training with a knee injury as the Eagles ramp up their pre-season.

But teammate Mark Hutchings doubts it is a serious setback, pointing to Redden's durability.

Redden had ice near his right knee after leaving the session, while Jeremy McGovern, Elliott Yeo and Tom Barrass continued their comebacks in sweltering conditions on Wednesday at Lathlain Park.

Redden played 25 games last season, the most of his 188-match career.

He finished runner-up in the club best and fairest and shared the Eagles' player of the finals award with Dom Sheed.

"I saw him with his knee iced - he's in the gym now, doing his thing now," Hutchings said after training.

"I think it was just a knock. He's a pretty durable fella, so I can't see it being too serious. We'll see over the next couple of days."

Hutchings is enjoying a solid pre-season after also playing in the Eagles' premiership side.

"To be a premiership player gives you a bit more credibility, I feel, and for me it justifies all the training that you do," he said.

"It certainly gives you a bit more confidence in your ability."

Hutchings played 20 games last year, also the most in his 95-game career, and was rewarded with a one-year contract extension.

He said the ball is in his court to show West Coast he warrants a longer deal.

"The five-year request was knocked back, unfortunately, but we're not all McGoverns," the run-with midfielder said.

"It's a ruthless industry and it's always good to have multiple years ... but it's up to me to prove my worth."
