Reds hit by injury for Auckland rugby trip

Queensland's Wallabies contingent is back on deck but injuries to Izack Rodda and Izaia Perese have forced coach Brad Thorn into a reshuffle for the Super Rugby clash with the Blues.

Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Taniela Tupou, Lukhan Tui and Samu Kerevi will start for the Reds at Eden Park on Friday after their roles in Australia's tight three-Test series against Ireland.

It will be Tui's first Super Rugby involvement since round nine and will be at blindside flanker, where he played for the Wallabies in their 20-16 defeat on Saturday in Sydney.

Back-rower Caleb Timu will come off the bench after recovering from the ankle issue that kept him out of the third Test.

But lock Rodda came out of that match with a shoulder injury and winger Perese hurt his knee during his recent club rugby commitments, ruling them both out of the Auckland fixture.

They have been replaced by Harry Hockings and Eto Nabuli respectively.

Jono Lance, meanwhile, returns at fullback after missing Queensland's last outing before the June Test window - their 52-41 defeat to the NSW Waratahs - as a late injury scratching.

However, the Reds won't get powerhouse centre Chris Feauai-Sautia back again this year after he twisted his left knee in a club match, requiring surgery on a torn meniscus.

"We've been hit with some injuries during the June Test window through Wallabies and club rugby but we've been giving players opportunities all year to ensure we can deal with setbacks when they occur," Thorn said.

"It's disappointing to lose those guys to injury but it presents opportunities to other players."

The Blues are bottom of the New Zealand conference, with only three wins for the season but Thorn said they remained a "dangerous" team, particularly on their home deck.

"Queensland hasn't won at Eden Park since 2012 so there's a great challenge and opportunity in front of us to show what progress we've made this season," he said.

"We'll need head there ready for anything."

Queensland Reds: Jono Lance, Jordan Petaia, Samu Kerevi, Duncan Paia'aua, Eto Nabuli, Hamish Stewart, Moses Sorovi, Scott Higginbotham (c), George Smith, Lukhan Tui, Kane Douglas, Harry Hockings, Taniela Tupou, Brandon Paenga-Amosa, JP Smith. Reserves: Alex Mafi, Harry Hoopert, Ruan Smith, Caleb Timu, Angus Scott-Young, Tate McDermott, Aidan Toua, Filipo Daugunu.
