Reform not just money for states: Morrison

Treasurer Scott Morrison says tax reform doesn't mean the states will end up with a 'bucket of money' to spend as they are now.

Treasurer Scott Morrison doesn't expect Australians will cop changes to the tax system that just end up giving the states a "bucket of money".

While not confirming that the government aims to make changes to the GST, Mr Morrison has linked the response to the Harper review into competition law with changes to a future tax system.

"The Australian people, I don't think, will cop any changes in the tax system just to give the states a bucket of money to spend it as they are now - they would expect to see any changes to result in better services, more choices, better spending," Mr Morrison told Sky News.
