An extra 142 weekly train services are destined for regional Victoria, about half going to the growing Geelong region.

The new services will start from August 27, with 69 a week set for Geelong, while the Bendigo and Ballarat lines will get an extra 18 services a week each.

The upgrade comes after regional lines saw hundreds of V/Line service cancellations in early 2016 that left thousands of people stranded.
