Melbourne Renegades coach David Saker has simple expectations when it comes to Chris Gayle: hit sixes and win games.
Gayle is one of the most highly-rated Twenty20 batsman in the world and will form a crucial part of the Renegades' quest for a maiden Big Bash League (BBL) title.
Gayle's previous stint at the Sydney Thunder was a failure for all involved.
Teammates were unimpressed with the Jamaican slugger's VIP treatment, while on the park in 2012-13 he averaged 19.57 in the BBL.
Saker is confident Gayle's form on and off the field won't be a concern for his BBL franchise.
"Tom Moody is our list manager and he has a good relationship with Chris," Saker said on Wednesday.
"We've got a good idea of how to handle him and how to manage him. He's someone that just loves going out and playing the way he plays."
Saker added the Renegades know exactly what to expect from Gayle.
"He's hit more sixes in world cricket than any other player to have played the game, that's exciting in itself," England's former bowling coach said.
"He'll win us games of cricket and that's what we expect him to do."
Much has been made of the fact Gayle and Dwayne Bravo are playing for the Renegades instead of taking part in the West Indies' three-Test series against Australia.
Bravo retired from Test cricket in January but the former ODI skipper is desperate to be part of the West Indies' T20 World Cup campaign.
Gayle underwent back surgery earlier this year but has flagged his desire to play Test cricket again.
Saker suggested both were "really hungry for a good competition".
"They love coming to Australia and it's going to be really exciting," he said.
"Chris is that sort of player that he will just go out and play his way and that's why we've picked him.
"Dwayne is probably one of the best T20 bowlers in the world."
