A Sydney journalist and her editor will appear before a Victorian court over an article that caused a murder trial to be aborted and a jury discharged.

Yahoo 7 News online reporter Krystal Johnson, her editor and their lawyer will appear before the Victorian Supreme Court on August 30 after a senior judge was forced to discharge a jury because of an article deemed prejudicial to the murder trial.

Justice Lex Lasry this week described the decision to publish certain material in the article as "scandalous" and said he wanted the reporter to attend court and explain her actions.
