Reports Horn will fight Skeete 'premature'

Reports that Jeff Horn will defend his WBO welterweight title against Bradley Skeete in November are "premature", the Australian boxing champ's promoter says.

Jeff Horn's promoter has described reports that the world champion boxer will defend his WBO welterweight title against Briton Bradley Skeete in November as "premature".

Horn had reportedly locked in the third-ranked Englishman after Manny Pacquiao knocked back a re-match due to his commitments as a Filipino senator.

Skeete has a 27-1 record and holds the WBO European welterweight title.

Horn's promoter Dean Lonergan said talks had begun well with potential opponents but had nothing to confirm.

"Duco Promotions would like to advise that reports WBO World Welterweight champion Jeff Horn would fight Englishman Bradley Skeete in late November are premature," Lonergan said in a statement.

"I can confirm negotiations are progressing well with the top 10 ranked opponents but an official announcement will only be made when all relevant parties have signed contracts.

"Rest assured, Duco Events, Tourism Events Queensland and Brisbane Marketing are all working together to ensure Jeff's next fight will be held here in Brisbane."

Horn had reportedly booked a November 25 bout with Skeete after attempts to lure former belt owner Jesse Vargas fell through.

Horn was forced to reschedule his title defence after a potential November 12 re-match in Brisbane with Pacquiao was abandoned by the boxing great.

Horn is still hoping for a 2018 re-match with Pacquiao.

Former school teacher Horn caused one of boxing's great upsets when he defeated 11-time world champion Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium in July.
