Rescuers walk through Tas snow to find man

A rescue team has walked through knee-deep snow overnight to rescue a Victorian man injured on Tasmania's Cradle Mountain.

A rescue team walked through the night in knee-deep snow to find a young Victorian bushwalker injured on Tasmania's Cradle Mountain.

The 21-year-old activated his emergency beacon on Saturday afternoon but bad weather forced a rescue helicopter to return to base.

A land-based search team left Dove lake at 8pm and walked 16km in challenging conditions to Windermere Hut, where they found the man with minor leg injuries.

They stayed with him overnight until the rescue helicopter was able to fly in at first light on Sunday.
