Residents on high alert over Vic bushfire

Victoria's fire service have issued a watch and act warning for bushfire in the state's west and told residents leaving is their safest option.

Residents near a bushfire in Victoria's west have been warned that leaving may be their safest option.

The Country Fire Authority has issued a watch and act message for the Black Range fire, near Stawell.

The warning states the bushfire has crossed containment lines and is heading towards Wilson Lane and Monaghan Road.

"Don't wait, leaving now is the safest option - conditions may change and get worse very quickly," the CFA warning states.

"The Emergency Services may not be able to help you."

They have been advised to travel to their nearest regional centres or the home of family and friends.

A CFA spokeswoman said the blaze has burnt about 1300 hectares in difficult terrain and scrub land and fire crews were expected to battle the blaze overnight.
