Residents warned to brace for Qld storms

The Bureau of Meteorology says severe thunderstorms are likely in southeast Queensland over the next four days.

Severe thunderstorms are set to roll through southeast Queensland over the next four days, with warnings of a potential "super cell" in Brisbane on Friday afternoon.

Storm cells with heavy rain and strong winds are likely to pass through the region from Thursday to Sunday, the Bureau of Meteorology says.

"We're looking at some falls in excess of 100mm, which can lead to some flash flooding," BoM forecaster Gordon Banks said.

"Friday and Saturday are looking particularly active."

Storms are predicted to form south of Emerald on Thursday afternoon, and may head as far west as Brisbane's western suburbs.

A maximum of 34C is forecast for Brisbane on Friday and over the weekend.

Areas near Roma and Charleville have already received a deluge, with falls of 140mm since Wednesday morning.
