Response to Sydney car park crash praised

Organisers of a Sydney netball competition have praised the actions of parents who helped lift a vehicle off a woman after a car park accident.

A group of parents who lifted a car off a woman following a parking accident at a Sydney netball complex have been praised for their quick response.

The 61-year-old victim suffered head injuries and a broken leg after the out-of-control vehicle struck her at Miranda about 10am on Saturday.

Sutherland Shire Netball Association, which organises competitions at the complex, thanked all those who "without hesitation" gave their assistance and support.

"As a community, we were able to show support, care and compassion for everyone at the courts," SSNA said in a statement.

"(We are) proud to be a member of this community."

The association said the woman and a 65-year-old man who also suffered head injuries were in a stable condition on Saturday night.

Police said it appeared the 73-year-old driver of the SUV hit the accelerator instead of the brake while parking and crashed into the couple and the metal fence around one court.

Witnesses, including numerous off-duty emergency service workers, rushed to help the pinned women.

"Over 10 of us literally pulled down the fence so that others could pull the injured lady out from between the fence and the back of the SUV," off-duty nurse Melissa Caldwell told AAP.

Witness Judy McLachlan said a group of men lifted the car off the woman.
