Returning indigenous stars to light up SCG

Collingwood and Sydney will each be looking to stretch their respective AFL winning streaks when they clash at the SCG tonight.

Three star veterans with a combined 787 games of AFL experience will add lustre under the SCG lights when Sydney host Collingwood.

Each club has regained a celebrated indigenous player for the Marn Grook match which marks the start of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round on Friday.

Daniel Wells will return to the Pies lineup for the first time in almost a year, after injuring his foot at the MCG in the 2018 Queen's Birthday game.

The 34-year-old Wells has played only 14 of his 257 career games in his two seasons with Collingwood, who are riding a six-match win streak.

Sydney welcomes back Lance Franklin, who missed their last four games with a hamstring injury.

Also adding experience to the youthful Swans side is co-captain and midfield linchpin Josh Kennedy, who has recovered from a quadriceps issue which kept him out last week.

Kennedy and Franklin with 295 and 235 games respectively, will be far and away the most senior players in a Swans side aiming to win three straight.

Sydney shaded both Essendon and North Melbourne 77-72, but may need to boost their goal output of 11 in each of those games to vanquish Collingwood, who have scored over 100 points in four of their last five matches.

That said, the last two encounters between the Swans and Pies at the SCG produced low scoring thrillers.

Collingwood won 80-79 in 2017 in Franklin's 250th game.

Last year, Franklin bagged six goals and teenager Tom McCartin kicked a decisive late major as Sydney squeezed out a 73-71 win.

Franklin, who was the Swans' leading goalkicker in each of his first five seasons at the club, is running third on this season's list with 11.

Tom Papley who has bagged four-goals in two of Sydney's last three games, leads the way this season with 14 edging Isaac Heeney on 13.

Collingwood will again be without their leading goalkicker Jordan De Goey, who has booted 19 this season.
