South Sydney halfback Adam Reynolds has pencilled in a return for the side's round seven clash against NRL premiers North Queensland as he continues to recover from a broken jaw.

Reynolds hasn't played since being laid out by Sydney Roosters prop Kane Evans in the season-opener, and while he's on track to take on the Cowboys, insists he won't risk coming back too early.

"I'd like to think round seven or eight. That's six weeks from when it happened," Reynolds said.

"But in saying that, if it's not right, I won't be pushing it at this stage of the season. It's a long year ahead and it's not one to rush back from."

As the rest of his teammates recovered from Sunday's 8-6 defeat to St George Illawarra, the 25-year-old was put through his paces alongside the injured Tom Burgess at Redfern Oval on Monday.

But he said there was no chance of an early return.

"It's always good running around in the rain. I wish I could've been out there with the boys yesterday, but it wasn't to be," he said.

"I had my fair share of fitness this morning. It's a nice top-up there, just keeping in shape."

Reynolds said back-up halfback Cody Walker had performed strongly in his absence, but would have heeded some harsh lessons from their last-start loss to St George Illawarra.

"He's been good. It's only his third game of first grade," he said.

"He's got a lot to learn as he'll learn out of that game yesterday. But for the start of the year and the pre-season he's had, he's been wonderful for us."

The Rabbitohs next take on Canterbury in the annual Good Friday clash at ANZ Stadium.
