South Sydney halfback Adam Reynolds has been named to take on the Wests Tigers on Thursday night despite the No.7 still to be cleared of a broken jaw.

There were fears the Rabbitohs playmaker had cracked his jaw for the second time this season after copping a late shot from Brisbane forward Adam Blair on Friday.

But the 25-year-old now appears set to play, as does prop George Burgess, who missed last week's match with a abdominal strain.

Former bad boy Dane Nielsen keeps his spot in the backline after confirmation Hymel Hunt has been ruled out for up to five months with a ruptured pectoral muscle.

But it's the inclusion of Reynolds that will warm the hearts of Souths fans.

Maguire said medical staff would continue to monitor his progress through the week.

"It's pretty positive so we'll just have to wait and see this afternoon," Maguire said of Reynolds on Tuesday.

"I think anyone who's had that injury, you're always going to have some evidence of what's there.

"That's what they're having a look at the moment, just to see whether there's any other break."

Hunt was booked in to have surgery on Tuesday, and isn't considered a chance to play again this year unless the Rabbitohs make the finals.

The Rabbitohs dropped out of the top eight after their fifth loss in six weeks against the Broncos last week and have conceded 74 points over the past fortnight.

Winger Alex Johnston will miss his sixth straight match with a hamstring issue but has targeted the round 10 clash against Parramatta for a return.
