Reynolds is fit but Souths' form a worry

Adam Reynolds says he has no fitness concerns after getting through his return match last season, but isn't so happy with South Sydney's NRL form.

Adam Reynolds' abdominals may have been fine after his early return to the NRL from surgery, but he doesn't believe South Sydney's form is so healthy.

Reynolds returned early for the Rabbitohs in the 38-18 win over Manly on Saturday, but despite the win he was not happy with the Bunnies' start to the season.

Souths backed up their 34-18 loss at the hands of the Wests Tigers in the opening round by conceding three tries in the opening 11 minutes against Manly, before coming back to win.

And while Reynolds said he was impressed with his team's late resolve, it simply wasn't good enough.

"We still let in four tries and passages throughout that game weren't good enough," Reynolds said.

"We've got standards and we haven't lived by them in the first two weeks.

"If you want to be successful in this competition you've got to turn up every week at your best and perform."

Crucially, for Souths, Reynolds pulled through the match without injury.

The NSW State of Origin halfback had his appendix removed just a fortnight prior to the match, and he was meant to be sidelined for four to six weeks.

However with Greg Inglis ruled out for the season, Reynolds completed a number of contact sessions before making his return at Lottoland on Saturday.

And he said he had no lingering problems after the match, or leading into this Saturday's clash with Newcastle.

"I felt good," Reynolds said on Wednesday.

"I felt good leading into the week. As the week went on I progressed and went further in training."

Reynolds began moving as quick as possible after the surgery in a bid to return to full fitness early.

However given the surgery, there was external concern over aggravating his abdominal area if he returned too early.

"Especially after surgery I was pretty sore," Reynolds said.

"There were a number of days there where I was struggling to get out of bed.

"But credit to our medical staff they got me moving pretty early and got me through it."
