Time is running out for Josh Reynolds to play for Canterbury again after the playmaker failed to overcome a calf strain ahead of the Bulldogs' NRL clash with Gold Coast.

Reynolds has just one chance left to don the blue and white before linking with Wests Tigers next year after failing a fitness test on Friday.

The Bulldogs said forward Greg Eastwood (knee) has also been ruled out after pulling up short at the captain's run.

Reynolds has already missed the Bulldogs' final home game of the year due to the injury - last round's stirring 30-16 win over Manly.

Now he is racing the clock to be fit for Canterbury's regular season finale, a round 26 clash with St George Illawarra on September 3.

The Bulldogs had kept their fingers crossed Reynolds would miss just one game with the "minor calf strain" sustained in their round 23 loss to South Sydney a fortnight ago.

However, Reynolds has received another setback in his bid to play again before his lucrative four-year deal starts at the Tigers in 2018.

Coach Des Hasler confirmed a 19-strong squad for the Titans clash after holding fitness tests for Reynolds and Eastwood on the Gold Coast.

The Bulldogs mentor confirmed Matt Frawley would remain at five-eighth for Reynolds partnering Moses Mbye in the halves with Michael Lichaa retained as starting hooker against the Titans.

Despite Reynolds' absence, Canterbury will back themselves to extend the Titans' five-game losing streak after breaking their drought against Manly.

They had lost 10 of their previous 12 games.

The Gold Coast are playing their first game since coach Neil Henry was sacked over a reported feud with Titans star Jarryd Hayne.
