Reynolds still a chance for return

Adam Reynolds is some chance to make a surprise return from a broken jaw to play in Friday night's NRL local derby against the Sydney Roosters.

The South Sydney playmaker has returned to training, and coach Michael Maguire refused to rule out playing him.

"He trained yesterday with us. He's coming along really well ... we'll have to wait and see," Maguire said on Wednesday.

"I'll go down and talk to the physios and doctors so we'll wait and see."

The Rabbitohs piled 42 points on the Roosters with Reynolds in the team in round one, and appeared to be doing fine without him when then put on another 48 the following week against a hapless Newcastle.

However their attack has dipped significantly since that point, and they have scored only a combined 30 points in their past three games.

But Maguire said he was happy with the performances of Cody Walker and Luke Keary and was still planning as if they would fill the halves roles again on Friday night.

"I'm very fortunate to have Cody and Luke Keary playing really good footy too.

"At the moment we're really focused on what we need to do on Friday.

"Luke and Cody have been doing a good job for us and I'm looking forward to seeing them do it again."

Maguire also played down talk that Reynolds was ahead of schedule on returning from the jaw injury, which the club originally said could take anywhere up to 12 weeks.

"That chatter was around," Maguire said.

"But with the jaw it's around the six-week mark.

"That was always the case, maybe the performance unit put out eight weeks early just to be careful."
