Carlton have suffered another injury blow with key forward Levi Casboult out for a month of the AFL season with a fractured rib.

The 28-year-old suffered the injury in a marking contest in the last quarter of Saturday night's 55-point loss to Adelaide

He was taken to hospital by ambulance after the at Adelaide Oval match for assessment.

"Scans have also confirmed as a result of the fracture, Levi has sustained an injury to the lining of his lung," Blues football boss Andrew McKay said.

"Levi will remain in Adelaide for monitoring over the coming days and while disappointing that this adds to our growing injury list, we understand that senior exposure will only benefit our younger players in the long-term."

Casboult joins a lengthy injury list that includes skipper Marc Murphy (foot), Alex Silvagni (Achilles), Charlie Curnow (ankle) and Sam Docherty (knee).
