Ricardo's Business: Proof high $A sends us overseas

David Jones CEO Paul Zahra yesterday blamed the high Australian dollar as one of the key reasons for his company's profit downgrade.

But Flight Centre has said the opposite, praising our strong currency for its profit upgrade.

International ticket sales are up, but with Australian airlines warning of higher fares because of rising jet fuel prices and the impact of a carbon tax, can this demand for overseas holidays remain strong?
