Richmond cool on Yarran for AFL R1

The AFL's season-opener between Carlton and Richmond is unlikely to feature high-profile Blues defector Chris Yarran due to calf injuries.

Chris Yarran is an unlikely starter for Richmond's round one date with former AFL club Carlton due to calf injuries, but Tigers coach Damien Hardwick is more concerned about his recruit's fitness at the end of the AFL season.

"He's probably not going to be ready for the start but he'll be there when the whips are cracking," he said on Wednesday ahead of his club's NAB Challenge date with Fremantle.

Hardwick will follow the lead of several other AFL clubs and hand over the coaching duties to assistant Brendon Lade for their opening pre-season match on Friday night.
