A motorcyclist has been found dead more than a day after an early morning crash in Victoria's far northwest.

The victim, a 38-year-old man, had attended a house and nearby tavern near his home in Nangiloc, near Mildura, before riding away about 2.20am Saturday but his body and wrecked motorcycle were not found until 9.30am on Sunday, police say.

Police believe there was a collision shortly before the rider lost control and they are investigating if speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

Witnesses are urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

The death takes Victoria's road toll to 20, 10 fewer than at the same time last year.
