Australia's world-title winning rugby sevens team has beaten New Zealand to win gold for Australia.
The Australian women won the first ever women's Olympic rugby sevens title 24-17 in a rough and hard-fought match against their traditional rivals.
The top-seeded Australians bounced back from a below-par day two to produce a dominant display in the semi-final at Deodoro Stadium which never gave the Canadians a sniff.
Swimming
Mitch Larkin has finished fourth in the mens 100 metres backstroke final behind Ryan Murphy of the United States who won in the Olympic record time of 51:97.
Emily Seebohm and Madison Wilson had a disappointing outing in the 100 metres backstroke, finishing seventh and eighth respectively.
Meanwhile, more Australians have qualified for today's semi-finals in the morning heats.
Emma McKeon and Bronte Barratt have both qualified for the 200 metres freestyle final while Grant Irvine failed to reach the 200 metres butterfly final.
Meanwhile Alicia Coutts has qualified sixth fastest for the 200 metres individual medley semi-finals.
Hungary's "Iron Lady", Katinka Hosszu, qualified fastest in the Olympic record time of 2:07.45.
Kotuku Ngawati finished in 17th position in the 200 metres individual medley, just shy of the top 16 that qualified through to the semis.
Cycling
An Australian track cyclist has been taken to hospital as a precaution after a nasty crash at the Rio Olympic Velodrome.
Melissa Hoskins was taken off the track on a stretcher after the women's team pursuit crashed at race speed during a training session.
The Australian Olmypic Committee said Ashlee Ankudinoff, Georgia Baker and Amy Cure were able to walk off the track and were being treated for friction burns and bruises.
Annette Edmondson was leading the team and was able to stay on her bike.
The AOC said Hoskins has been taken to hospital as a precaution and an update on her condition would be provided when it was available.
Athletics
The Australian athletics team has finally arrived in Rio from the team training camp in Florida, United States.
It is the second largest off-shore athletics team Australia has fielded with 61 athletes.
The medal contenders include race walker Jared Tallent and long jumper Fabrice Lapierre.
Tennis
Australia's Samantha Stosur is through to the third round after beating Japan's Misaki Doi 6-3, 6-4, while John Millman went down to face Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-7, 4-6.
Czech Republic's Petra Kvitova knocked out former world number one Caroline Wozniacki in the second round of the Rio Olympics on Monday, in another poorly attended tennis match on centre court.
Two-time Wimbledon winner Kvitova overpowered Wozniacki 6-2 6-4 to progress to the third round, where she will face either Russia's Ekaterina Makarova or Slovakia's Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.
"It was a tough draw for me. Petra played well today, really played aggressively and got me on my heels a little bit," said Wozniacki, ranked 53 in the world after an injury-ravaged season.
Basketball
The Boomers have won a tight match against Serbia 95-80.
Serbia led the Australians for the first three quarters, but the mens team managed to turn it around in the final quarter to clinch the win.
Rowing
Australia has finished fastest in the mens four rowing heats ahead of Great Britain and Italy.
They have qualified through to the semi-finals, to be held on Tuesday, Rio time.
The Australian womens eight, who got the Rio call up late after a Russian team was eliminated for doping, finished last in their heat.
The qualified through to the repecharge which will be held on Wednesday, Rio time.
Equestrian
Australia led the eventing after Christopher Burton rode a fast and clean round on a cross country course full of falls, refusals and time penalties.
Burton's performance helped pull Australia ahead of New Zealand and France. Medals will be awarded on Tuesday after show jumping, the third and final phase of eventing.
''I took a few long routes because this is a difficult course... but he is so fast!'' said Burton, 34, one of only three horse and rider pairs to escape penalties.
''I was not expecting this, he has far and above exceeded our expectations,'' he said of his horse Santano II who had never jumped an elite four-star course before.
Burton is also leading the individual rankings after the cross country ahead of German's Michael Jung and France's Astier Nicolas.
Hockey
The Australian women's team had more bad luck in the hockey, going down again 2-1, this time to the United States.
They will next face India on Wednesday morning, Rio time.
The men's team, which lost 0-1 to Spain yesterday, will play Belgium tomorrow.
Waterpolo
The Australian men kept their hopes alive with a 9-9 draw against powerhouse team Hungary.
The tension between the two teams spilled over into a physical altercation during the game.
Beach volleyball
The Australian pairing of Nicole Laird and Mariafe Artacho del Solar have gone down 1-2 to the Swiss pair Isabelle Forrer and Anouk Verge-Depre.
The other Australia pair, Taliqua Clancy and Louise Bawden, will face Olaya Perez Pazo and Norisbeth Agudo of Venezuela about noon, Australian time.
Archery
Australia's Alice Ingley won her round of 32 match against Italy's Lucilla Boari.
However she was eliminated in the next round, going out against Brazil's Ane Marcelle Dos Santos 0-6.
Judo
Judoka Jake Bensted beat Tonga's Andrew Thomas Mlugu in the men's 72 kilogram elimination round of 32.
But he went down against Azerbaijan's Rustam Orujov in the elimination round of 16.
Kayak
Kayaker Jessica Fox finished second in her heat of the K1 womens canoe slalom and has qualified for the semi-finals.
The semi-finals and finals will be held on Thursday.
Weightlifting
Australia's Tia-Clair Toomey finished eleventh out of seven in the womens 58 kilogram weightlifting.
She finished with a total of 189 after lifting 82 kilograms in the snatch and 107 kilograms in the clean and jerk.
