More walking success
Race walking has emerged as a strength of Australian track and field.
Dane Bird-Smith has claimed Australia's sixth medal in walking in the past four Olympics with bronze in the men's 20 km walk.
His father, David Smith, walked for Australia at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics, and was so excited to see his son win a medal, he rushed to see him at the finish line and was detained by military police.
He was fined, and had to scramble to be released from custody before the medal presentation.
Bird-Smith beat out Brazilian Caro Bonfirm for third place by just five seconds.
