Brisbane goalkeeper Jamie Young has been hit with a three-game A-League suspension for his challenge on Adelaide United's Craig Goodwin.

Young received a straight red card for rushing out of his area and taking out Goodwin in the second half of United's 4-3 victory at Coopers Stadium.

He has until 2:00pm on Tuesday to advise whether he will appeal the increased sanction for an offence which carries a minimum one-match ban.

Brisbane said in a statement they were exploring their options for a potential appeal.

The independent match review panel ruled Young, who ranked third in the competition for saves this season, had committed serious foul play.

Young's send-off came just minutes after teammate Dane Ingham was shown a second yellow card for kicking the ball away.

Adelaide went a man down in the 10th minute when midfielder Ken Ilso was controversially sent off.

The Dane was challenging Matt McKay for possession while falling and caught the Roar skipper on the shin, receiving a straight red card without VAR intervention.

He will serve the minimum one-match suspension.

After being fouled by Ilso, McKay could be seen shaking hands and conversing with the Dane before referee Alex King eventually produced the red card.

"For me, the question is ... who makes the decision in Australian football? Who made the decision? The main referee or another person?," Reds coach Marco Kurz said.

"The main referee gave nothing and after a couple of seconds it's a red card; who gave the red card?"
