Robbo earns praise from Lions AFL coach

Brisbane coach Justin Leppitsch says his young Lions need look no further than Mitch Robinson for a role model on how to become an AFL player.

Brisbane coach Justin Leppitsch wants his young Lions to use Mitch Robinson as a role model on how to turn the AFL strugglers' around.

Robinson has been a star in an underwhelming Lions outfit in 2016, regularly tagging - and nullifying - the best player in opposing sides.

The former Carlton player continued his recent form during last Saturday's loss to West Coast, outpointing Matt Priddis as well as leaving the Brownlow Medallist with a broken nose.

Robinson's form hasn't delivered wins for the Lions, who have just one victory this year from 13 matches.

But Leppitsch says there's no denying the 27-year-old is playing a vital role for the club.

"He's completely taking a player out at the moment and adding some numbers, and that's a rare combination to do both," Leppitsch said.

"Not surprisingly he's been one of our best players this year because he plays 120 minutes and focuses on his role for that time, and that's all you can ask from a playing group."

Robinson's tagging duties are set to continue this weekend when the Lions travel to Melbourne to play Richmond.

Leppitsch wouldn't reveal which Tiger would get the heat from Robinson with Trent Cotchin or Dustin Martin the men most likely.

"I won't give away all the secrets yet," Leppitsch said.

"A lot of our players need to put some pressure on the opposition.

"His real job is stopping the opposition's best player and that's what we expect."
