Roberts weighs up future as Titans utility

Off contract playmaker Tyrone Roberts is weighing up his future at the Gold Coast after the "ups and downs" of life as a Titans utility.

Tyrone Roberts' utility status has made him invaluable to the injury-hit Gold Coast Titans, but his "Mr Fix-it" role at the NRL club may yet force the off-contract Roberts to look elsewhere.

The winless Titans need Roberts more than ever with 12 players either injured or unavailable ahead of Friday night's round three home clash against ladder leaders Parramatta.

However, Roberts prefers a starting halves berth after the "up and downs" of life as a Titans utility and he has not ruled out leaving the Gold Coast to find it.

"It's good to have that utility role under your belt but at the end of the day you want to prepare yourself best each week in one position," Roberts said.

"(As a utility) there are ups and downs. My preferred position is starting in the halves. I have been shopped around different positions at the moment.

"It would be good to just play one."

Roberts said pressure was mounting at home to get a new deal done.

"I am trying to sort that out, the missus wants to find out where we are going to be," he said.

"It puts pressure on her because she hates moving.

"If I can stay that would be a positive but I want to do the best for my family."

Roberts lost his starting five-eighth spot to Kane Elgey this year, who returned from a lengthy knee injury.

Officially Roberts will wear the No.9 jersey against the Eels filling for the injured Nathan Peats but he could end up anywhere if last week was any guide.

His utility prowess was on show in the round-two loss in Newcastle, playing hooker in attack and fullback in defence as the Titans' horror injury toll grew.

"I didn't complain, just did what needed to be done," Roberts said.

He hoped the depleted Titans - featuring debutant fullback Tyler Cornish - adopted the same attitude against a red-hot Eels outfit.

"We just to keep moving forward. Whoever is replacing the injured players they have to step up," Roberts said.

"We have to come together. There isn't anyone else who can fill in anymore.

"We are going to be under the pump because their confidence is up and ours is down.

"But we want to give the home crowd something."
