Robinson confident Latrell will stay

Latrell Mitchell could be a target for a number of NRL clubs at the end of 2020 but coach Trent Robinson is confident he's a Sydney Rooster through and through.

Fear not Sydney Roosters fans, Latrell Mitchell isn't going anywhere.

So says Roosters coach Trent Robinson, who believes the 22-year-old NRL superstar will elevate his game to even greater levels at Bondi.

Mitchell has been mooted as a target for South Sydney following the retirement of Greg Inglis, while it's expected he would be a popular option for other cashed-up clubs when his contract expires at the end of next year.

Not that Robinson is concerned.

"Latrell's always talked about (how) he developed through here," Robinson said when asked if he was confident in Mitchell remaining at the club long-term.

"We gave him a chance when other clubs wouldn't.

"He's on for this year and next and that's our focus.

"There's enough noise when it comes to recruitment around our club and what we have or haven't done.

"But we've been pretty rock solid for a long time now about players continuing on or developing at our club."

The contract speculation comes after a busy start to the season off the field for Mitchell.

He is reported to be undergoing issues with his management, while he was fined last month for failing to leave a pub near his home town of Taree.

The NSW State of Origin centre also made the shock admission last week he felt he'd only been going through the motions to start the season despite starring in a number of Tricolours wins.

"He's been performing for us," Robinson said.

"He's obviously performed on some big moments for us and it's the beauty of Latrell.

"He's got his standard that he wants to play to and he's got a fire in him that he wants to get more."
