Robinson to lead Melbourne Vixens

Star Melbourne centre Madi Robinson will take over captaincy duties for the Vixens from Bianca Chatfield, who has retired.

Diamonds star Madi Robinson will take over captaincy duties as she makes her comeback from a knee reconstruction with the Melbourne Vixens.

The two-time Australian netballer of the year takes over as Vixens skipper from the retired Bianca Chatfield for the trans-Tasman netball championship beginning in April.

Robinson endured a tough 2015 after she ruptured her ACL in round five, with the injury ruling her out of Australia's successful home World Cup campaign.

The 28-year-old centre, who last year signed a two-year deal with the Vixens, will be backed by new co-vice captains Geva Mentor and Kate Moloney.

Robinson praised the pre-season efforts of the side which failed to make the finals last year.

"I hope to be able to empower my fellow teammates to get the best out of themselves, while continually growing and learning about this position myself," Robinson said.
