Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson says he is unsurprised by the media storm created by the inclusion of his brother Dean as a consultant at the NRL club.

Dean Robinson was the high performance manager at Essendon throughout the club's supplements scandal, before he was stood down on the eve of the AFL club's self-reporting.

He eventually settled a $1 million case with Essendon for wrongful dismissal, and was never charged by ASADA over the matter.

Robinson has since been enlisted as a fitness consultant at the Roosters however, according to News Corp Australia, his registration with the NRL is conditional that he is not involved with sports supplements.

And the Roosters head coach said he was fully aware the decision to bring him on board as a consultant was always going to create waves.

"It was always going to be a story once he got back into sport," he said.

"You know that it's been unfortunate the whole story from many sides and you feel for all that.

"He's obviously got his own life now and that's away from sport. But if there was ever going to be a small re-entry that was going to be news."

Better known as "The Weapon", Dean Robinson worked with Manly in the mid-2000s, before he shifted to the AFL through Geelong, the Gold Coast and Essendon in the AFL.

"Obviously he's been an expert in that area for some time through both codes," the Roosters coach said.

"He's doing a consultancy role which is a small role but any helping hand in that area is needed.

"I know he can pass on some expertise and that's what he will do at different times."
