Rodionova loss ends Aussie tilt at US Open

Anastasia Rodionova, Australia's last player standing at the US Open, and her mixed doubles partner Oliver Marach have lost their semi-final.

Australia's hopes of a title at the US Open have ended with the mixed doubles run of Anastasia Rodionova and Austrian Oliver Marach coming to an end in the semi-finals.

The unseeded duo were beaten 6-1 7-6 (8-6) by third seeds Chan Hao-Ching and New Zealander Michael Venus on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Rodionova -- the older sister of fellow tennis professional Arina -- will be pleased with her best showing at a Grand Slam event since she reached the same stage in the women's doubles at Flushing Meadows in 2010.

Her best showing at one of the big four tournament is runner-up in the 2003 Wimbledon mixed doubles.
